Our History

The Weiss Scholarship Foundation (WSF) was created in memory of Bernard and Elsie Weiss. Both originate from the city of Chicago and grew up very poor during the Great Depression. In spite of their difficult circumstances, they worked hard to make sure their three sons had a great education—and therefore great lives.

Bernard and Elsie were passionate about education and understood its importance in creating a successful life. That’s why Brett, their son, felt it was appropriate to begin this foundation in their memory. Inspired by Bernard’s and Elsie’s dedication and passion, we work each day to empower children by trying to create a world in which every child has the opportunity to receive a great education.

Our Philosophy

The Weiss Scholarship Foundation’s mission is to empower the children of Kenya by ensuring they have access to a great education.

Our vision is to create an organization that can positively touch the life of every child in Kenya, helping them to develop a positive sense of self and enrich their lives—enabling them to realize their full potential.

We are working to give real hope to these children, their families and the entire village. We believe that we can empower children by creating a world in which every child has access to a better education—and, in turn, they will help improve lives by passing on a positive legacy of enrichment and hope.
