Kenyan children wearing masks - child education sponsorship in Kenya

During COVID Keeping Our Kenyan Students Safe and Educated

Child education sponsorship in Kenya must continue! COVID has given our supporters even more reasons to want to be a part of our donor family.  Our two biggest challenges the last 9 months while all our students were back home in Dago:

1. How do we make sure our students, especially our girls, are safe?  Most are total or partial orphans.

2. How do we try to keep education going in a village where the parents do not have electricity?

A sad reality in Kenya is for students, especially the girls, not being in school means they are less safe. During the past nine months rapes of girls and teenage pregnancies have been way up.  For the most part, when a girl is pregnant, she cannot attend her school. Once a student stops attending, the odds are she or he will never go back to school.

On most days, these last nine months, we held lessons outside for our students in Dago who are part of the Luo Tribe, and were sent back home last March. The tailoring school we started last February, made masks for all 3,000 people in the village.  So, the students and our staff all wore masks and practiced social distancing. We strive every day to give real hope to our students and we made sure we did that even during COVID.

Our local staff, trained teachers, Ernest and Christine, regularly checked in with each student and their families to make sure all were safe. The safety of our students is and continues to be our top priority.

School resumed for all students in Kenya on January 4th, 2021. We are enormously proud to report that all our students returned to high school on time and safely!

There are thousands of students in Kenya, mostly girls, who did not return to school.

In the developed world, this may not seem like a big deal.  I can assure you it is a very big deal, and your contribution has helped make this possible. Our staff made sure education continued and our students stayed safe.

Child Education Sponsorship in Kenya

The Weiss Scholarship Foundation works hard every day to make sure our students have the resources to give them every opportunity to be successful and to keep them out of danger.  Today, please help us sponsor and fund more Kenyan students – help them stay safe and continue their educations. With Covid, your help is needed more now than ever.
